Back-to-School Etiquette: Raising Confident, Kind Kids 🎒📚
As the new school year begins, let’s give our students a quiet superpower—everyday etiquette. Small habits build big character, and those habits become confidence in the classroom, on the playground, and far beyond.
1) Respect for Teachers 🍎
- Start each class with eye contact and a warm “Good morning, Ms./Mr. ____.”
- Listen fully—no side chatter while others are speaking.
- Use “please,” “thank you,” and “excuse me” as standard phrases, not special occasions.
2) Kindness to Classmates 🤝
- Greet peers by name; invite new students to sit with you at lunch.
- Share materials and take turns—collaboration beats competition.
- Be an includer: notice who’s on the edges and bring them in.
3) Punctuality is Power ⏰
- Build a simple morning routine (pack bag the night before, set clothes out, charge devices).
- Aim to arrive five minutes early—punctuality shows respect for everyone’s time.
4) Tech Manners Matter 📱
- Follow classroom device rules without reminders.
- Keep screens down when a person is speaking—people first, tech second.
- Use kind, clear language in chats and emails; think before you click “send.”
5) Healthy Space & Hygiene 🧼
- Wash hands regularly and use sanitizer when needed.
- Respect personal space in lines and shared areas.
- Cover coughs/sneezes and help keep common spaces tidy.
6) Gratitude Goes a Long Way 🙏🏾
- Thank bus drivers, cafeteria teams, custodians, front office staff, and teachers.
- Notice help and name it: “Thanks for explaining that problem,” “Thanks for saving me a seat.”
7) Own Your Actions 🎒
- Complete homework on time; if you miss a step, communicate early.
- Admit mistakes, make amends, and reset—accountability earns trust.
H.E.A.R.T. for Students 💛
Hospitality (welcome others) · Empathy (consider feelings) · Attentiveness (listen well) · Respect (for people & spaces) · Trustworthiness (do what you say)
Final Thoughts 💭
Etiquette isn’t about perfection; it’s about everyday choices that make school feel safe, warm, and welcoming. Let’s model these habits at home and cheer our students on as they practice them in class.
